Background Forthay Bed and Breakfast has two double rooms and one twin room. One double room has an en-suite and the two other rooms have their own private bathrooms. We offer breakfast and evening meals to guests. The property is grade 2 listed, which needs to be borne in mind when we are mitigating Coronavirus risks.
Changes to services Following the regulations introduced by the government in response to the Covid-19 pandemic covering Bed and Breakfast businesses we have adapted our working practices to protect our staff and guests. We have undertaken a full risk assessment as laid down in the Government guidelines and mitigated the risks where possible. If we cannot mitigate a risk we have noted it’s existence accordingly. The actions we have taken have been recorded on the Forthay Bed and Breakfast website. We will be reviewing the document every Monday in the initial two months, using our experience and guest feedback. The sole aim is to create a safe environment for our staff and our guests.
Summary of Changes to Services • Sanitiser placed in each bedroom, at entrance to Forthay and at each dining table.• Each bedroom has its own dedicated coat peg and boot rack in the entrance hall. These are sanitised after each visit.• Arrival times rarely coincide, but we will ensure that there is a twenty minute gap between arrivals. This will eliminate crossovers whilst guests are being shown around and bringing in their cases.• Guests self check in when they enter the porch. They will have a folder contain their registration form, breakfast menu, breakfast check list and house keys.• Whilst guests are secure in their own rooms and they have their own bathrooms we ask them to be patient and observe the one metre plus rule in the hallways and on the stairs.• Breakfast times are staggered at 15 minute intervals to reduce crossovers. Each bedroom has its own table in the dining room, and there is the option to eat outside. The buffet for cereals and juices has been removed and guests will be receiving a table service. All menus are laminated and sanitised after each breakfast.• The snug can only hold five people and accommodate two of the three bedrooms whilst maintaining the one meter plus policy. Gloves are available for those who would like to read any of the books. We have removed the board games from the snug. Magazines are sanitised after use. • There are 4 separate areas in the garden where guests can sit and relax.• The staff will provide guests with the option of wearing masks when taking orders and serving breakfasts, if this makes guests more comfortable. The kitchen is sanitised before and after breakfast and evening meals on a Monday.• The dining room is sanitised after each sitting. This includes the tables, backs of chairs, arm rests, light switches and door handles.• All bedrooms are sanitised after each guest visit and the laundry washed at 60C.• If a guest falls ill they will be asked to self isolate in their room and if found to have Coronavirus to leave Forthay and return home, assuming they are fit enough. The room will be left empty for 72hours before a thorough clean and sanitisation.
Summary These changes in our operation will enable Forthay to reopen and maintain the Government Guidelines for a Bed and Breakfast. Whilst this will require vigilance on the part of our guests and staff, we will be providing a safe Covid environment. We will be reviewing our procedures weekly and encourage guests to feedback to enhance our safety going forward.
Kind regardsCharles and Debs
